Hiya! I am Vanessa Akridge Dorminey, a seventh generation South Georgian, and I bring a unique blend of skills and expertise to the field of genealogy.

Background

As a professional genealogist, I specialize in answering your continuing family history questions to solve the puzzles surrounding your ancestors. Through analysis of your autosomal DNA test results, my aim is to uncover vital information about your unknown ancestors or birth parents, as well as a wide range of other genealogical questions.

I am also an author, editor, graphic designer, and illustrator, where I specialize in genealogical graphic designs and beautifully written narratives.

Whether you need written family histories, detailed family charts, professional stationery such as report covers, business letterheads, business cards, or logo designs with a branding kit, I can create meaningful and creative designs that highlight your business or family history.

I also have experience in the following:
  • turning comprehensive reports and manuscripts into interactive flipbooks, providing a modern and interactive way to present your research,
  • original book jacket designs to set your book apart from the crowd, and
  • reproduction of and original illustrations to enhance your reports and manuscripts.
My knowledge of genealogical standards, methodology, genetic genealogy, and technical writing allows me to deliver specific research tailored to your needs. With fifteen years of experience as a former legal assistant specializing in real estate and probate matters, I bring a strong foundation in legal research and documentation, adding an extra layer of reliability to my genealogical work.

Let me help you discover and present your family history in a beautiful manner.

Vanessa has a very unique set of skills: those of a designer and those of a genealogist. It gives her the ability to create beautiful, keepsake family histories that are based on solid research and an eye for bringing a family to life. Laurie Hermance-Moore, AG®, Heritage Bridge

I engaged Vanessa to prepare a set of genealogical charts, maps, and assorted other illustrations for a genealogy I was publishing. She was easy to collaborate with, adhered to the overall project schedule, and delivered artwork that exceeded expectations. There are plenty of illustrators you can find online, but few that also have expertise in genealogy. You would not hire someone ignorant of chemistry to illustrate a chemistry textbook, so why would you hire a non-genealogist to illustrate a genealogy? I would definitely work with her again. Robert Cameron Weir, Antic Press

I HIGHLY recommend Vanessa!!! I was raised by my grandfather and knew my mother. But I have always been curious about my father and my background. Vanessa helped me figure it out. She provided me with information about potential family members. After a DNA test, I was finally able to connect with my biological father, older brother, and sister after 40 years of dreaming about doing so! I will forever say that Vanessa is determined to find answers. She has earned and deserves high praise!!! Elizabeth Courtney, Enigma, Georgia
