Taneya Koonce is an enthusiastic genealogist with a long-standing passion for exploring family history and more than 20 years of professional expertise in information science, research, and information organization. Taneya volunteers extensively in the genealogy community, with current leadership roles in the Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society (National Treasurer and AAHGS Nashville Chapter President) and the USGenWeb Project (National Representative-at-Large). Over the past few years, Taneya has been a contributor to national stories on convict leasing, delivered presentations for RootsTech, and in Spring 2023, she moderated a panel conversation for a Finding Your Roots virtual conversation, From Dead Ends to Discoveries: Overcoming Roadblocks in Genealogy Research.  

Taneya additionally facilitates education and inspiration for family history through her online Facebook community, Academy of Legacy Leaders and provides instruction and training on organizational strategies through her Facebook group, Organize Your Digital Memories Club
