Rogier Overman (born 1972) studied modern history with a specialism in business history at the University of Amsterdam. He received his graduate degree in 2001 with a thesis on the history of the Amsterdam student doctors. Overman subsequently turned this thesis into a self-published, award winning book.

In the following two decades, Rogier Overman first authored several books on the history of different organizations and companies, and later changed his work to writing family books for and about the history of families with Dutch origins.

In addition to writing books, Rogier Overman also helps individuals with genealogical and historical research into their Dutch ancestors, including finding historical photos about their families in the Netherlands. Related to this work, he does daily research in digital sources, archives, libraries and historical institutes like the Dutch Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies (NIOD), the International Institute of Social History (IISG) and the City Archive of Amsterdam (all located within cycling distance from his office), and the Dutch National Archive in The Hague (within 1 hour distance by train).

In 2023, Rogier Overman launched the website Dutch Family Roots. The various services offered on this site (including the genealogical services) are based on his expertise and over twenty years of experience as a historian. These services are particularly aimed at people with Dutch ancestry living all over the world.

Rogier Overman is an independent professional historian and secretary of the Dutch association of independent professional historians. His passion is to track down the unknown little jewels in history and present them to the public with all their brilliance. With Dutch Family Roots, he aims to do this especially for people with their own little jewels in their own Dutch family histories.
