Earlier this year (2024), I was hired for my dream job: working as a genealogist and historian at the Jefferson County History & Art Center in Madison, Indiana--one of the most beautiful and historic towns in the Midwest. I have been working with other researchers to uncover the vastly underestimated role that Madison and Jefferson County residents played working with the national Underground Railroad network 
I was drawn to genealogy when I began researching my great-grandfather Josiah Peter Hackett, who served in the U.S. 17th Infantry during the Civil War. That is my favorite era of American history, but I have also been very involved
