I'm a professional genealogist, writer and lecturer with thirty years experience offering research, writing and digital services for family and local history. I can help you uncover your family's roots and also produce high-quality, design-led books and websites for you to share your discoveries with family and friends.

I offer a personal and professional service and believe in going the extra mile to ensure you get the most from our relationship.

Services

My services are in two aspects:

1) Genealogy Research: across the UK, focusing especially on Britain's industrial heartland: the six historic counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. I am within easy reach of all the major record offices and repositories in these areas and also have access to online databases, archives, documents and indexes. Research is charged by the hour or according to a pre-agreed fixed price package.

2) Family History Albums: Family history write-ups and albums based on a researcher's notes, photographs and family documents. Albums are professionally presented in a hardback cover. They are an attractive and convenient way to share your research with family and friends, while ensuring that your valuable work will be preserved for future generations.

  • Tracing Your Birmingham Ancestors (Pen & Sword, 2015): A guide to family history in Birmingham, UK, covering all key sources. Suitable for beginners and experienced researchers alike.
  • Tracing Your Potteries Ancestors (Pen & Sword, 2019): A guide to family history in the Staffordshire Potteries, covering all key sources. Suitable for beginners and experienced researchers alike.
  • Family Matters: A History of Genealogy charts the development of family history in Britain over the last 200 years, describing how genealogy evolved from a genteel pursuit of the landed and professional classes to a popular activity enjoyed by millions (Pen & Sword, 2011).
