Melanie Whitt is a professional genealogist who works as a contractor for Family Locket Genealogists and private clients. She earned a Master of Science with Distinction in Genealogical, Paleographic, and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde. She is accredited as a Qualified Genealogist (QG) with the Register of Qualified Genealogists in the UK.
As a product of recent immigration to the US, her work has a strong international focus in France, Sweden, Germany, and the British Isles, in addition to extensive practice in the Great Lakes and Northwest regions of the US. She speaks French and has genealogical literacy in Swedish and German. Melanie has additional experience connecting US families back to Eastern Europe through Jewish, Catholic, Lutheran, Greek Orthodox, and civil records in Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Melanie routinely incorporates DNA analysis in her research to identify biological family in casese of adoption, misattributed parentage, unknown 19th-century females, orphaned ancestors, African-American heritage, lineage confirmation, and more. She is proficient in creating and analyzing DNA network graphs to discover ancestors and in using Banyan DNA.
