Discovering who my ancestors are has always piqued my interest, but finding the marriage record of my great-great-great grandparents in the records of the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City got me hooked on genealogy. After that eureka moment, I spent countless hours at the library, digging through the records to uncover more ancestors and their life stories. I eventually moved to Germany and earned a master's degree in history from Aachen University (RWTH Aachen). After I graduated, I was excited to discover that I could combine my enthusiasm for genealogy and history by becoming a probate researcher, which has been my profession since 2008. This line of work allows me to use my knowledge of sources in the US to assist my colleagues to locate heirs as well as to expand my knowledge of sources in Germany, Europe and beyond, which has also helped me break through some of my own brick walls.
