As well as creating family trees which include direct and verifiable sources, I also assist with the more complicated applications to lineages societies. For each of my successful General Society of Mayflower Descendants' applications, I have had to write a Proof Argument to prove my lineage to a Mayflower Passenger. A Proof Argument is needed when only indirect relationship evidence can be found—in other words, no document exists which specifically names someone as the child of their parents. Ample indirect evidence, or circumstantial evidence, presented in a well-organized and coherent narrative may 'prove' the relationship in a lineage society application.
