My genealogy adventure started in 1998. After years of doing my own genealogy, and helping others voluntarily, I decided in 2012 to go professional.

Many of my clients have been Americans or Australians with Norwegian or Swedish ancestors. Some with no knowledge about where their ancestor came from - other than «Norway» or «Sweden», and with an Americanized name. Most of these cases can be solved with today’s many online resources and a combination of experience, knowledge and search skills. Some cases have to be solved by going to the Archives, or taking a DNA-test to at least get a clue on geographic area.  If you consider a DNA-test, I suggest you read about the Norway Project, or Sweden Project (external websites) to make sure you do the right test.

I have assisted law offices in Norway and USA to find legal heirs in Norway (Nominated Executors of Estate, not «heir hunters»). I have also worked on several TV productions with genealogical research, both in Norway and Sweden.

Since my office is in Oslo, the capitol of Norway, I have close access to the main repositories for genealogical resources, the National Archives of Norway, Regional State Archives Oslo, Oslo City Archives, The National Library of Norway and several museums and other repositories. I am also close to transportation, and can easily go to repositories in other parts of the country.

I like to list my specialities as:
  • Heir research for Estate Administrators/Probate courts
  • genealogy research in Norway and Sweden
  • to help Norwegians and Swedes to find their emigrated relatives in the US

"We are absolutely satisfied with the work carried out by Laila Christiansen and also we are of the opinion that her charge for service is most reasonable". Robert Dahl, Ballina, Australia ?Your researching my very common Johnson surname, provided absolute proof of the connection. It is greatly appreciated and I will use you again", Charles Johnson, Racine, WI

"Laila N Christiansen has worked for the TV-series «Alt for Norge» (The Great Norway Adventure) all  11 seasons. The job that the genealogists do on this project is priceless and very important. Their job builds the foundation for the content in the series and it affects who we choose to be part of the cast. Laila has always been a huge resource for the project, and with her effort and knowledge we raise content and storytelling to a high level. Laila never gives up! And that is one the reasons why we love working with her every season!" Brita Karlsen, Casting Producer, «Alt for Norge» Monster Entertainment

Finding our Oldefar with no information!

"Laila Christiansen has done genealogy research for me for the past four months. She had the knowledge, skills and persistence to find information and assemble the 20 years plus puzzle of my family history, piece by piece.  In spite of my experience (living many years in Denmark and Sweden and translating books from these languages to English). It was like he emerged with no prior history upon his arrival in Chicago at age 17.  Laila found incredible data to delve into his life and our family now knows our “oldefar” was born on a farm, apprenticed as a carpenter, and emigrated to Chicago with his brother.  Her skill set and passion for family history answered our question of “where did I come from?”  We are so thankful for her help along the journey". J. Hamrin, Ed.D, Maine, USA
