I started with genealogy back in the mid 90's when I was a senior in college.  For my senior project, despite the fact that I was an English major, I focused on my grandfather's family. Pop was, for all intents and purposes, an orphan at an early age.  His mother was the proverbial black sheep of the family, and she moved away from them before he was born.  His father died of TB when he was very young, and his mother, destitute, did what she had to do to survive - which didn't include taking care of her only son.  Pop lived on the street well before he was 10 years old, and occasionally, a neighborhood family took him in.  He joined the Navy at 16 and was married with three children at 22.

I, by the grace of powers larger than me, found him a whole, huge family of cousins, aunts, and uncles, who had NO IDEA that he existed.  At the ripe old age of 67, Pop had a family - a history that wasn't confined to poverty, neglect, and abuse.  They were overjoyed to discover his existence, and until his death, he corresponded regularly with his cousin Doris, who had been instrumental in showing us the work she had done on the family history.  I am forever indebted to Doris Hoffman for her time and love and for bequeathing me all of her work.

If you're looking for your family, I can help you find them.
