Joseph Roby
Enslaved at Oakley & Beyond Project Leader; Chapter Rep, Mid-Atlantic Chapter of APG
While not currently taking clients, Joseph continues to work on a major research/writing project entitled "Enslaved at Oakley & Beyond." His research traces the people held in bondage by his ancestors in northern Virginia. One of the goals of the project is to write and publish narrative genealogies for all the families who were enslaved.
Besides African American and slavery-era research, Joseph's extensive research experience includes the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions of the United States, as well as
Ireland and Poland. One of his favorite aspects of researching is combing through archives in manuscript collections. Joseph has presented to in-person and virtual audiences. He has a BA in history with a concentration in American history. He lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
