With generations of border crossing between Canada and the US in her background, Dr. Gretchen Green learned a love of history and genealogy from her grandparents, and earned a PhD in History from the College of William and Mary (Williamsburg VA). Having researched her family genealogy for decades, and taught history and archival research in the Midwest and Seattle, Dr. Green has experience in French as well as Spanish and German records research and in researching and teaching Native North American (indigenous) history. Migration patterns from Europe and Africa to North America and Latin America and within the Americas in the 16th to 19th centuries have always been an area of interest. Her PhD dissertation focused on the history of indigenous-French and English, Dutch colonist relations in New France (now Quebec, Canada). More recently, her social work with migrant farmworkers in the US provided a fascinating window into other human migration patterns in the Americas, as she has gotten to know communities from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and the Caribbean.  Living in the Kansas City area near St. Joseph, Missouri, she found by accident a shared ancestry with the founder of St. Joseph, Joseph Robidoux, whose roots were in French Canada. Put her language skills and deep historical knowledge to work for you to help you unlock surprises, discover and understand the context as well as the vital facts of your ancestors’ story!
