Gregory Kontos, a Greek national, was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1996. He holds degrees in history from the University of Athens and the University of Leiden, with a specialization in the history of migration, nationalism and religion. A genealogy fan from a young age, Gregory founded GreekAncestry.net in 2020. Greek Ancestry is based in Athens, Greece, and has already been recognized as the leading Greek genealogy organization at an international level.

Gregory and his team at Greek Ancestry offer professional Greek genealogy services, including archival research, translations, DNA analysis, assistance with citizenship applications, ancestral trips etc. At the same time, Greek Ancestry is committed to record preservation and accessibility through digitization and indexing projects throughout the country, as well as to educational initiatives (conferences, webinars, articles etc.). Gregory has led all the Greek content projects run by MyHeritage, and has a long list of co-operations with international genealogy organizations, companies and projects, including, among others, AncestryProGenealogists, Trace.com, Legacy Tree Genealogists, FamilySearch, IGRA, PBS show “Finding your Roots”, BBC show “A House Through Time," Australian "Who do you think you are?" and more.

Greece

Gregory is a pioneer in Greek family history research and the top researcher in this field. As a native of Greece, he has knowledge of the records in all regions, understanding of civil and church office procedures, and personal contacts with archival, municipal, and ecclesiastical leaders. We have worked together on various projects for ten years. His business, GreekAncestry.net, is the first organization in Greece to make records available in both English and Greek, and to promote initiatives in education and records preservation. Gregory is honest and fair in all his associations, and dedicated to helping people achieve their research goals.
