Elyse Hill

Board Certified Genealogist (CG) With A Specialization in African American Research

  • Ethnicity / Religion
I have 20+ years of genealogy research experience and my passion is to work on genealogy research projects for individuals and entities such as archivists, curators, preservationists, cemeteries, churches, law firms, historians, museums, societies, local governments, and academic institutions.

My research experience includes locating and analyzing historical information and sources to build and expand family trees and to tell the stories of African Americans who were formerly enslaved and free persons of color both pre and post Civil War and in some cases locating living descendants.

Specific genealogy research projects I've conducted successful research for include:

The University of Georgia-Athens (UGA) History of Slavery at the University.

The Kentucky U.S. Colored Troops (USCT) Reckoning Project

The T.R.R. Cobb House & Museum in Athens, Georgia, individuals enslaved by the Cobb Family project.

The Atlanta History Center’s 1906 Atlanta Race Riot and the 1912 Forced Exile of African Americans from Forsyth, County Georgia projects.

U.S. National Park Service, National Underground Railroad, Network to Freedom.
