Bob Rettammel

Hello, my name is Bob Rettammel and I am a Professional Genealogist based in Madison, WI.
Rettammel Genealogy Service, LLC

I have been President of the Dane County Area Genealogical Society (DCAGS) for three terms, and also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), National Genealogical Society (NGS), and Wisconsin State Genealogy Society (WSGS) Vice-President in 2024. I also was part of an 18-month Professional Study Group called ProGEN-35, which I graduated from in November 2018. I have a master’s degree in Sociology from Marquette University with concentration in Sociology and Gerontology.

A facet of genealogy that interests me is photo restoration and history of photographic processes. I specialize in German-American research but continue to educate myself on all types of U.S. record sources and databases. My main archive resource has been the Wisconsin Historical Society Library and Archives. Ten years ago, I decided to help other people with their own genealogy research questions and have learned a lot through helping others with their projects. I have worked on two research projects with the TV series “Who Do You Think You Are?”, and I appeared in the credits for Season 8, (2017), episode 5. I follow the principles of Genealogical Proof Standards (GPS), and I value teaching about the importance of GPS to interested groups.
