My professional work in genealogy was sparked by a DNA test, which highlighted the challenges faced by my international matches when researching their family in Sweden, given the country's unique history and records. Based in Gothenburg—the departure port for 80% of Swedish migrants in the nineteenth century—the traces of emigration are ever-present. I work at Postgatan, where many emigrants spent their last days or weeks before departing for a new life.
