Adwoa Ulzen Setrakian is a holistic professional genealogist and researcher based in the Atlanta Metro Area. She integrates family and community collaboration, wellness, and a spirit of mutual support and assistance as she works with a range of clients. She is the founder and owner of Human Temple Therapeutics LLC and spanDNA, through which she provides compassionate and culturally relevant genealogical services with a special focus on genetic genealogy for under-represented communities and family groups.
Adwoa’s career spans over two decades, during which she has deeply engaged in both personal and professional genealogical pursuits. Her expertise lies in Ghanaian, African American, and some Dutch genealogy, with a particular emphasis on genetic genealogy.
Adwoa serves on the boards of the Edward A. Ulzen Memorial Foundation (EAUMF) and The Ulzen Family Foundation (TUFF), where she has been instrumental in the development of the Elmina-Java Museum in Ghana.
• Publication: Principal researcher for “Java Hill: An African Journey: A Nation’s Evolution Through Ten Generations of a Family Linking Four Continents.” Barnes & Noble | Audiobook
When not immersed in genealogical research, Adwoa enjoys foraging for wild edibles with her husband and three children, teaching Pilates, and actively participating in social work and grassroots community building. As a master social worker, educator, and Pilates teacher, her diverse interests and expertise are reflected in her holistic approach to genealogy. She combines rigorous research with a deep passion for community and wellness, enriching her work with a unique and compassionate perspective.
