APG Seeks Assistant to Executive Director (Remote part-time position)
1 March 2025The Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) is now accepting applications for the role of Assistant to the Executive Director (ED). The Assistant to the Executive Director reports to the ED, who in turn reports to the Executive Committee. The role is a remote, part-time staff position, anticipated to require 10-12 hours per week.
The Assistant supports the ED by managing daily, monthly and quarterly administrative functions related to member communication, financial reporting, association procedures, and document management. The Assistant will be representing APG in interactions with the public and with APG vendors and must be comfortable managing those types of relationships. The Assistant should be an excellent team player, demonstrating team-building skills through their interactions with APG members, the APG contract team, as well as the APG Board and its committees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage administrative functions within the director’s office as support/backup to the ED, handling email correspondence from members and the public, updating calendars for the APG Board and its committees, and identifying opportunities to improve office efficiency and the member service experience.
- Prepare documents for financial reporting as required by the APG Treasurer and bookkeeper.
- Support the quarterly mailing of the APG Quarterly to subscribers.
- Participate in preparation for executive committee and board meetings, gathering relevant data and creating presentation materials as required.
- Support APG initiatives, across all committees and the APG contractor team, as needed. Examples include support for the team during the Professional Management Conference, helping committees with calls for proposals, and support for APG’s presence at genealogical conferences.
- At least three years’ experience working remotely, with availability during daytime hours in any US time zone.
- US residency.
- Strong client service skills – positive attitude and good communication.
- Project management skills – prioritization and time management.
- Flexibility to learn new software, and familiarity with Adobe, Microsoft Office, Dropbox and Zoom.
- Some knowledge of genealogy is preferred, but not required.
- This remote, part-time position will be paid US$25 per hour.
