APG regularly honors the outstanding contributions our members make to the organization and the field of genealogy through our awards and scholarships. See each award or scholarship description for details on the criteria, judging, deadlines, and a list of past winners.

Kathleen W. Hinckley Professional Achievement Award

Highlights a record of individual excellence and ethical behavior with contributions to the field of genealogy.

Laura G. Prescott Award for Exemplary Service to Professional Genealogy

Recognizes exemplary professionalism and continuing encouragement to other professional genealogists. 

Grahame T. Smallwood Jr. Award of Merit

Recognizes a long-term personal commitment and outstanding service to the Association.

APG Fellowship

Provides a funded, short-term opportunity for members to undertake a program focused on professional, academic, or personal development outside of their country of legal residence that relates to their genealogical practice at home. 


APG Quarterly Excellence Award

Recognizes excellence in material (article, review, or column) submitted to APG Quarterly (APGQ), the Association's quarterly journal. 

Chapter/SIG Excellence Award

Honors APG Chapters or Special Interest Groups (SIGs) showing innovative and exemplary support and promotion of members, APG, and the profession.


Certificates of Appreciation

Recognition of outstanding, continual, or unusual contributions to APG, by a member or a non-member.

APG Honorary Lifetime Membership Award

Recognizes an excellent body of work in genealogy which has spanned a significant length of time.

Kenyatta D. Berry African American Research Scholarship

Recognizes aspiring professionals with significant interest in developing a career in African American genealogy.

New Professional Scholarship

Recognizes a new professional with a strong interest in developing a professional career in genealogy.
