Genealogists
and those in related professions from
The
management conference is designed to help beginning to veteran professional
genealogists, analysts, librarians, researchers, teachers, writers and others
in family history to balance a variety of skills necessary to run a successful
business. “It takes lots of talent to balance computer technology with
lecturing, research, and other skills and also find a way to a business
profit,” says Eileen Polakoff, PMC coordinator.
Anyone
may attend the PMC with payment of FGS and PMC registration fees to FGS. Go to
www.apgen.org and www.fgs.org for more details and complete program
information. The PMC fee includes a separate syllabus and “networking” luncheon
plus lots of fun with many door prizes. Early registration discounts end July
15, and space is limited.
“Attendees
say they learn more about their business in one day at the PMC than all year on
their own,” Polakoff says. “We can almost guarantee you will make contacts
there that will send you business.”
Nine
in-depth PMC lecturers will cover these subjects (presented by): word
processing tricks (Pamela Boyer Porter, CGRS, CGL), APG’s Professional Review
Committee (Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS), house histories (Helen F.M. Leary, CG,
CGL, FASG), earning a living as a genealogist (Louise St. Denis), right of
privacy (Donn Devine, CG, CGI), genealogy education (Tony Burroughs), learning
to write [Sherry Irvine, CGRS, FSA(Scot)], on-site client research (James W.
Warren), and expanding your business beyond client research (Paula Stuart
Warren, CGRS).
