APG Mail List

The APG mail list is a non-moderated mailing list used to discuss topics of interest to individuals under the APG umbrella (archivists, authors, booksellers, columnists, editors, lecturers, librarians, publishers, researchers, etc.). List is open to APG members and non-members, including persons considering the profession of genealogy, and family historians seeking professional networking. All participants agree to abide by APG's Code of Ethics.

There is a digest mode available, which sends messages in batches.

Note that "by posting here you give RootsWeb a permanent license to archive and redistribute those posts" and that messages may also be archived by (3rd party) search engines. Please check:

• Posting a message. Send mail to APG@rootsweb.com.
• Subscribing. Clicking on one of the shortcut links below should work, but if your browser doesn't understand them, try these manual instructions: to join the APG mail list in mail mode, send mail to APG-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body. To join the APG mail list in digest mode, do the same thing with APG-D-request@rootsweb.com.
  • Subscribe to APG-L
  • Subscribe to APG-D (digest)
• Unsubscribing. To leave the APG mail list (even temporarily), send mail to APG-request@rootsweb.com with the single word unsubscribe in the message subject and body. To leave the digest mode of APG, do the same thing.
  • Unsubscribe from APG
  • Unsubscribe from APG-D (digest)
  Note that in order to un-subscribe correctly, you have to use the same e-mail address you used to subscribe. Contact the list administrator if that original e-mail address is no longer valid.
• Archives. You can search the archives for a specific message or browse them, going from one message to another.
  • Search the APG archives (query by year)
  • Browse the APG archives (by month)
  In case you change your mind about a listing, use Archive Removal or Archive Removal.

Some current settings of APG-L:

• Largest message that can be posted: 20K
• Number of bounces before removing an address: 4
• Allow users to subscribe automatically
• Digests will be sent every 24 hours or if the new digest would be larger than 28K

The APG mail list was started on Friday, August 28, 1998. Items posted on the list do not necessarily reflect the views of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) and the other parties involved in creating and delivering this web site's contents. The APG mail list is hosted by "RootsWeb.com, the oldest and largest FREE genealogy site, supported by Ancestry.com". These parties will not be held liable for information presented as facts contained in any of these postings, or in providing the true identity of the individuals responsible for these postings. These individuals may however be held responsible for any legal defense costs, occurred by APG and the aforementioned parties, arisen from these postings.
